Today's digital technologies quickly become commodities, and adoption of emerging technologies provides only temporary edge and differentiation. To stay ahead, you must think bigger and take bigger risks. Do not make the technologies themselves the focal point, but the profound business transformations they make feasible. While these transformations offer organizations great benefits, they also offer extreme risks that must be accounted and planned for.
Takeaways
10:00 am - 10:30 am
Successful IT executives focus on the people. Leaders need to become more of a trusted advisor. It's important for IT executives to partner with UX, HR and employee experience teams to aid with the shift in workforce dynamics, like emerging technologies or AI interactions.
10:30 am - 10:50 am
Over the next 5 years, it's forecasted that roughly 30% of enterprises will augment BYOD policies to include bring your own enhancement? (BYOE). It will be tempting for IT to try and regulate or control human augmentation technology, but the real focus should be to exploit the employee's interest in BYOE to advance the business. Some manufacturing companies are currently using wearables to promote worker safety. Companies in both travel and healthcare industries are using these devices to boost productivity. With these technologies constantly evolving, organizations should contemplate how these enhancements can be leveraged in both the personal and professional lives of the workforce.
Takeaways;
At a time when the threat landscape ever expanding, two out of three organizations worldwide claim to have a lack of the IT security staff needed. The need for cybersecurity professionals is at an all-time high. The deficit of qualified individuals has made the need for automated security tools more of a requirement than a desire in order to maintain a strong security foundation. Today's products and technologies can enable even small teams to appropriately secure multiple websites and applications, offering potential answers to the pressing recruitment issues.

10:50 am - 11:10 am
The barriers are falling. Thanks to AI and AR, it's projected that we will see a dramatic rise in the hiring of people with disabilities. As of right now, roughly 30% of the American workforce is represented by individuals with disabilities. A large amount of the talent pool that has been unexplored at a time when there is a scarcity in available talent. These opportunities will bring about necessary changes in the organization ranging from the culture to the technical aspects. Food for thought: companies that employ disabled individuals hold an 89% higher retention rate, 72% rise in production and a 29% increase in profitability.

11:10 am - 11:30 am
We are approaching a point where individual activities tracked by IoT devices and systems will be recorded digitally by an ?Internet of Behavior? (IoB) to influence benefits and service eligibility for people across the world. The idea behind IoB is to be able to digitally link a person with their actions. For example, connecting your identity by way of facial recognition with an activity such as renting a car will be tracked digitally. In addition, IoB will also be used to influence specific behaviours. For example, Progressive's Snapshot and Allstate's Drive wise offerings monitor and record a driver's behaviours and in turn offer higher or lower rates based upon those behaviours. However, there have been concerns raised over the ethical implications of spreading this technology to social services (i.e. schools or assisting living) attempting to compensate or discipline certain behaviours.
Takeaways;
IT security professionals all face one major issue: being asked to do more, with less resources. Automation and integration are a necessity in order to meet the demands of an organization's security needs. Managing risk without diminishing the speed and quality of development is achievable by integrating security into agile processes, like DevOps or CI/CD. Since most security teams are understaffed, automated solutions are becoming a requirement, rather than an option to properly manage the ever-increasing workload.

At the pace technologies are expanding, how organizations connect with and influence the customer is set for dramatic changes. AI identification of emotions will be the driving force behind many advertisements soon. Between the rise in popularity of wearables that track user's habits, locations and biometrics (and the advancements that are being made with artificial emotional intelligence) companies will be able to detect customer emotions and reactions. This knowledge, alongside environmental and behaviour indicators, enables companies to establish a much deeper level of hyper-personalization within the customer's experience. Companies will be able to use this data to increase sales and drive revenue. However, the power to create a hyper-personalized experience comes with the price of being hyper-transparent with consumers about the data that is being collected and how it is being used.
Takeaways;
In 2019, data breaches endured yet again as the largest security threat noted by organizations and IT security professionals alike. If data remains as a high valued commodity, ensuring data privacy and securing personal data will continue to be at the top of the list of an organization's concerns. The increases in privacy legislation, such as GDPR and CCPA, and the understanding of the ramifications stemming from a breach have allowed these concerns to remain heavily in the spotlight. Web application flaws have been identified as the top cause of data breaches. As such, establishing and maintaining web application security has developed into a high priority for all organizations.
Takeaways;
12:30 pm - 12:50 pm
As the cloud migration continues, securing data and critical infrastructure is going to require new approaches. Organizations have struggled to maintain control of critical data and ensure real-time threat intelligence, giving cloud based threats the ability to multiply. Data buckets being misconfigured, or inadequately secured increases the risk of a breach. Being able to manually manage security for large web application infrastructures has become a thing of the past. As such, organizations are being pushed to re-evaluate their approach to web application security.
Takeaways;
12:50 pm - 1:10 pm
Today's digital evolution will take major enterprises twice as long and cost twice as much as initially anticipated. They will likely struggle with digital innovation as they realize the associated challenges and costs within modernization. As such, smaller and more agile organizations have a great opportunity to be first to market, while larger organizations suffer through uninspiring immediate benefits.
Takeaways;
The average employee uses at least 3 different mobile devices to access business data. This number has risen and so has the amount of company data that is being stored on each device. Each device represents another endpoint that needs to be secured. While mobile malware threats are low, it's expected that there will be a rise in data breaches directly related to mobile devices. Providing access to company data via a secure web application infrastructure with real-time vulnerability management is one way of reducing risk with mobile devices.
Takeaways;
1:10 pm - 1:30 pm
This year will offer a wake-up call for many, as the overall cost of getting data wrong will be realized. Chief Data and Analytics Officers (CDAOs) and CIOs focusing on AI will rest assured knowing their teams have what they need when it comes to data. One of the major obstacles is sourcing data from a complex portfolio of applications and convincing gatekeepers to say yes. Effectively using intelligent automation will require compelling efforts in data cleansing, integration, and management that IT will need to support. Correcting previous data issues in legacy systems can be a considerable hurdle to leap, especially for larger enterprises. Top organizations will increase, and possibly double, their data strategy budget.
